Signs It’s Time to Consult a Specialist

Although ankle pain is often associated with a trauma or injury, overuse also may be causing anything from mild joint pain to a chronic condition.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms it may be time to consult a specialist:

  • Sudden intense pain
  • Pain when you’re NOT bearing weight
  • Swelling that persists for more than two weeks
  • Swelling that persists or worsens after 2-3 days
  • Limited range of motion due to stiffness, weakness or swelling

You should also seek treatment with an ankle specialist if you begin to feel feverish in connection with an ankle condition or if the ankle area reddens, becomes warmer or feels more sensitive - as those are signs of an infection.
