Vascular

The SolutionHealth Vascular Center at Southern offers comprehensive screening, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of vascular disorders.

About Vascular Surgery

Your vascular system – or circulatory system – is made up of arteries and veins that carry blood throughout the body.  As you age, these may build up with plaque and cholesterol, and become stiff and narrow. This can obstruct the smooth and efficient flow of blood, resulting in various complications depending on where the “traffic jam” is occurring.

Our board-certified vascular surgeons from Massachusetts General Hospital work in collaboration with the expert providers at Elliot Hospital to ensure patients receive top quality care locally with access to the latest research and treatments for vascular conditions. They help patients understand their health issues and treatments options. Many vascular conditions can be treated with medications. If surgery is necessary, our vascular surgeons are skilled in cutting-edge, minimally invasive endovascular techniques, as well as open surgery.

Vein Care

The SolutionHealth Vascular Center also offers diagnostics and treatment for cosmetic and medical vein conditions, including varicose veins and spider veins.

Risk factors for varicose and spider veins include long periods of standing, pregnancy, obesity, family history and age. They can be a cosmetic concern but left untreated they can sometimes cause swelling and pain.
Our board-certified vascular surgeons are trained in many minimally invasive options so you know you are getting the best and safest care for these conditions.

No matter your vascular health concern, our providers will work with you and in collaboration with your primary care provider to personalize a care based on our needs. We look forward to helping you regain your best health.

Treatment options for varicose and spider veins can include:

This is a safe and effective procedures that can be performed right in the physician’s office. A medication is delivered directly into the problematic vein with a small needle, causing the vein to seal shut. Patients often experience relief of symptoms within two months.

During a Radiofrequency ablation procedure, RF heat is sent into your vein through a thin, flexible tube called a catheter. This closes off blood flow in the main problem vein. Results from this treatment are visible within a few months.

This procedure is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient visit. The damaged veins are removed painlessly through tiny incisions.
