Tips for Breastfeeding Success

  1. Babies feed 8 or more times daily during the first days.
  2. By 5–7 days old, your baby should have yellow, mustard-like bowel movements.
  3. Breastfeeding should feel comfortable for you. If not, we’re here to help!

Hold your baby skin-to-skin for at least 30 minutes after birth to keep your baby warm and calm, encourage better feeding, and enhance your emotional connection.

Practice hand expression of breast milk to ensure comfort and improve milk flow. Watch this helpful video and view this handout for instructions.

A good latch is key to comfortable breastfeeding for you and effective feeding for your baby. Watch this video for an example of a good latch.
